Delete your ShelfLife account

ShelfLife is operated by Fisherbird LLC. This page explains how to request deletion of your ShelfLife account and the personal data associated with it, and what we keep afterward.

Delete your account in the app

The fastest way to delete your account:

  • Open the ShelfLife app and sign in.
  • Go to the Profile tab and tap the settings (gear) icon.
  • Open Data, then tap Delete account.
  • Confirm by tapping Yes, delete my account.

Your account is scheduled for deletion right away and you are signed out.

Request deletion by email

If you can't access the app, email us at admins@theshelflifeapp.com from the email address on your ShelfLife account and ask us to delete your account. We may ask you to verify ownership before we proceed.

If you have a Box Seat subscription

Deleting your account does not cancel a Box Seat subscription. The App Store, Google Play, or Paddle (for a purchase on our website) bills it, and only you can cancel it there. Cancel it before you delete your account so you aren't charged again:

  • App Store — on your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  • Google Play — open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  • Our website (Paddle) — use the link in your Paddle receipt email, or find your order at paddle.net.

In the app, Settings, then Membership opens the same place while you still have your account, and the delete confirmation reminds you.

If an App Store or Google Play subscription is still running and you come back, sign up again and tap Restore purchases to bring Box Seat to your new account. Deleting your account does not refund a payment you have already made; refunds are covered in our Terms.

What is deleted

When your account is deleted, we permanently remove the personal data associated with it, including:

  • Your profile (display name, handle, bio, and avatar) and your login email
  • Your shelves, books, reading status, ratings, and Top 12
  • The connection between your account and public reviews; the review text may remain under a deleted-user label unless you ask us to remove it
  • Your Book Signal activity
  • Private cropped spine images and their stylized renders; for non-private community submissions, the connection to your account
  • Your follows and other social connections
  • Your push-notification token and device identifiers

What is kept, and for how long

  • Timing — your account and reading data are removed from our live systems shortly after you submit the request, and no later than 30 days.
  • Backups — copies in our database point-in-time-recovery backups are purged on a rolling basis within 35 days.
  • Deletion record — we keep a minimal record that a deletion request was made (a timestamp and request identifier) to meet our legal and audit obligations. It does not contain your reading data.
  • Error diagnostics — crash and error reports held by our error-monitoring provider are retained for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted.
  • Anonymized data — statistics that are not linked to you (for example, a book's overall rating counts) may be retained.
  • Community image submissions — non-private cropped images submitted for community review and their stylized renders may remain in ShelfLife without a connection to your deleted account. Images still require admin approval before other readers can use them.

For full details on how we handle your data, see our Privacy Policy.
